After School Program

Before- & After-School programs are Department of Early Education & Care (DEEC) licensed and strive to provide the best programs for school-age kids. We believe that quality care involves accommodating individual styles and needs in a predictable environment which fosters the development of responsibility and social skills.
The Before- & After-School Program meets all staff requirements of the DEEC including a staff/child ratio of no more than 1:13, documented experience, reference checks and confidential criminal record checks. We encourage parents to spend time getting to know our staff and observing our program. Transportation to the Child Care Center is provided from all Greenfield Public Schools; travel arrangements must be confirmed with the Child Care Director before beginning the program. Sliding fees for Y Child Care are available for those unable to obtain funding from the State Voucher Program. Limited assistance is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, providing 25 to 80 percent off for qualifying families. Priority is given to those registering for 5-day options, then 4 days. The 3-day and 2-day registrations are accepted if and when there is a weekly match (i.e. if one child attends on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and another registers for Tuesday and Thursday. Other combinations may apply).
Supplemental Programs include:
Math Games
Reading & Writing Activities
Hands-on Science Projects
Dance, Music & Art Workshops
Muzzy French
Fitness & Yoga

Fun New Half-Day Program for Flexibility & Ease

Call us about our Half-day Allen Street Y-PreSchool Program, now in its second year at our Child Care Center, conveniently located near downtown Greenfield. For little ones ages 2.9 to 5, we’re planning an even bigger and better program this year that will continue to feature a strong academic backbone. Pre-reading, counting, language, colors, shapes and more will be introduced to your little learner, in addition to daily active, social play and physical education. Choose from our Monday/Wednesday/Friday option for 3.5- to 5-year-olds, our Tuesday/ Thursday option for ages 2.9 to 3.5, or our five-day program for mixed ages. Our classroom is designed for age-appropriate activities preparing preschoolers for the next stage of their education. The curriculum includes a mix of introductory learning and kindergarten-readiness activities through language, writing and math-based activities. We also utilize topic-specific structured lessons for developmental and social growth. And there’s no shortage of free play and hands-on fun with the variety of indoor and outdoor activities in the morning’s schedule. In the care of dedicated and compassionate staff (no more than 1:10 ratio) who are invested in helping your preschooler grow, your child is in a safe, nurturing place at the Half-day PreSchool, where he/she will enjoy this first stage of independent exploration and discovery.
Limited Financial Assistance is available through the YMCA Sustaining Campaign and the United Way. Community Partnerships for Children and state voucher day care grants are also accepted. For information call Lisa Jackson, Allen Street PreSchool Coordinator, at 773-3646, ext. 425, or 774-6026.

Our PreSchool classrooms include: a Library Center for promoting language and reading readiness skills as well as fostering an appreciation for literature; a Fine Motor Center, where kids develop hand-eye coordination and visual perception skills, and enhance problem-solving, classification, and discrimination skills; the Science & Math Discovery Center, which provides tactile stimulation, encourages sensory investigation, teaches problem-solving skills and stimulates cognitive development by encouraging children to reason, analyze, explore and classify. And of course there’s lots of individual instruction, allowing teachers to work with children one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce specific concepts or provide individually targeted challenges. All the children are encouraged to learn how to work independently with materials that enhance cognitive skills and keep them challenged. For more than 20 years we’ve strived to meet your child’s needs in all areas of early learning and development while foster independence, building self-esteem, and teaching/modeling the core YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our Y-PreSchool is fortunate to have such a complete and well-rounded curriculum that features a variety of hands-on and physical experiences from which young children learn best. And with lots of social and free play time, our preschoolers happily enjoy their first structured learning experience. We offer families a 36-week school year program or a 48-week option that includes our 9-week summer program. Early and late care are available, as well as flexible weekly scheduling.
