Child Care

With 20 years’ Child Care experience, our Y is a great choice for Before- & After-School Care.

The YMCA Child Care Center provides a fun, diverse, safe and comfortable environment for kids ages 5 to 14. The Center, at 51 Allen Street, is three floors of play and learning space with a large outdoor field and a variety of playground equipment. Before-school care includes healthy snacks, quiet games and stories, and a low-impact fitness program. After-School care centers on values-based curriculum incorporating music, physical education, dance, art, homework help and more. And new this year is a Junior Leaders Program for 5th- to 8th-graders who are interested in developing leadership skills while still having a safe place to go after school.

Before- & After-School programs are Department of Early Education & Care (DEEC) licensed and strive to provide the best programs for school-age kids. We believe that quality care involves accommodating individual styles and needs in a predictable environment which fosters the development of responsibility and social skills.

The Before- & After-School Program meets all staff requirements of the DEEC including a staff/child ratio of no more than 1:13, documented experience, reference checks and confidential criminal record checks. We encourage parents to spend time getting to know our staff and observing our program. Transportation to the Child Care Center is provided from all Greenfield Public Schools; travel arrangements must be confirmed with the Child Care Director before beginning the program. Sliding fees for Y Child Care are available for those unable to obtain funding from the State Voucher Program. Limited assistance is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, providing 25 to 80 percent off for qualifying families. Priority is given to those registering for 5-day options, then 4 days. The 3-day and 2-day registrations are accepted if and when there is a weekly match (i.e. if one child attends on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and another registers for Tuesday and Thursday. Other combinations may apply).

Great Kids Doing Great Things in Our Community
Leaders Club is more than a club, it’s an experience. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 and want to be part of a team that plans Y events (Haunted House, Dances, Parents’ Nights Out, etc.) and gets involved with the community (various service projects) and other Y departments, join us to make new friends and bring new rewards to your community service endeavors.

Under the direction of new advisor Angelo Thomas, the Leaders Club has tons of fun planned for the upcoming year. Starting off with a Camp Apex overnight in September and ending with our annual Year-end trip in June, this year promises to bolster the energy, excitement and rapport of this great and growing group. The club will hold regular meetings, some of which will include discussions and lectures on topics such as domestic violence, homophobia and the dangers of alcohol, smoking and drugs.

Leaders meet every first and third Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the YMCA. Club Fee is $25. With regular, consistent participation Leaders receive a Y Facility Membership.

New this year!! Leaders Club will be divided into levels of experience this year, with four stages to progress through. A new executive committee will also be selected.

*Club Information Night is Wednesday, September 13,
from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Social Room at the Y.

Clubs/Games Room

Have some relaxing social time with peers and classmates weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We have pool, air hockey, ping pong, board games and more. And starting this fall, we’re starting a Ping Pong Club on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you need any Game Room equipment, just ask the Back Desk clerk for what you need. Note that during school vacation weeks, the Game Room will be open for kids at 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We also encourage our senior members with grandchildren to bring them to play in the Game Room during Y-Family Fun program times offered six (and seasonally, seven!) days a week.

Chess Club

From novice to master, this new club is where chess lovers can find a game and pick up new moves. Meeting in the Social Room every Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the club is free of charge. The coffee is brewing and a Y volunteer is waiting to greet you. Call Physical Director Dawn Dorsey for information.

Ping Pong Club

Ping Pong players, we want to see you show off your skills! Starting in October there will be a pyramid-style competition in which you challenge those ranked above you. The goal is to move to the top of the pyramid. Divisions will be created if enrollment is high! Have some fun in the Game Room playing ping pong!

Jacuzzi

Our Jacuzzi is a great place to relax!

Open during most pool hours, our Jacuzzi offers warmth and comfort for you to pamper yourself after a workout or just give yourself a rest. Individuals using the Jacuzzi must take a soap shower, be at least 15 years old, and sign in and out. There is a four-person maximum and a 10-minute time limit. The Jacuzzi is open to all Facility Members and to Program Associates enrolled in Aquatic Classes.

Massages

Refresh Yourself with a Therapeutic Massage

Steve Roy, Cecily Legg, Jennifer Hooke and Kate Prondecki make up the YMCA’s Therapeutic Massage Team. Together they bring a variety of massage techniques to the YMCA, a convenient on-site location for our members, especially after a hard workout. Our massage therapists provide a nurturing and healing atmosphere in our private professional Massage Center. Massage, in addition to increasing circulation, flexibility and energy, can relieve fatigue and muscle soreness and help balance the effects of stress-related disease and dysfunction. Pamper yourself with a massage and enjoy the benefits. Call for an appointment.

Fees
Gold Members $30/half-hour $45/hour
Silver Members $35/half-hour $50/hour

Senior Functional Capacity Fitness Testing

During the Y’s annual Senior Functional Capacity Fitness Testing Clinic, we test for strength, endurance and flexibility as related to daily activities. The tests are easy to perform for all older adults. Results provide a capacity score which relates to an individual’s ability to continue a healthy, active, independent lifestyle. Independence is key for senior adults whose goal it is to live assistance-free in their own homes. We invite the public to attend our testing day and speak with Physical Director Dawn Dorsey about exercise choices at the Y that will enhance energy and strength to improve and maintain your quality of life.

Testing Day: Thursday, January 11, 2007, 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each year hundreds of YMCA members and Program Associates volunteer time and talent to help other members, raise funds to support our Financial Aid Program, run programs, assist with office work and help make new members feel part of the Y family. If you have some time and an interest in being part of our volunteer program, ask to fill out an application at our Front Desk. We always needs assistance in Youth Sports, bulk mailings, mentoring, special events, parades, Sustaining Campaign and fitness classes. We’d also love to know if you have an idea for a program where you could offer your talent.

We are always looking for senior volunteers who have time and talent to offer in the way of helping other adults feel welcome at the Y, offering new programs or helping with existing programs. If you have time and would like to meet and be around new people, contact the Front Desk to become a volunteer.
