Installation of VirusScan
(Student Version) on a Windows 98 / ME Computer
Important Note: You must uninstall any existing anti-virus
software that is currently installed on your computer (i.e. Norton A/V, older versions
of McAfee A/V, etc.) before installing VirusScan. Refer to the product documentation for
removal instructions.
- Click on
the following link to download the McAfee Virus Scan software: http://winus.spfldcol.edu/virusscan/av-451.zip
- When
prompted to “Open” or “Save” the file, click on “Save” and save the file
to the c:\temp folder on your computer.(Note: You
may need to create the folder.)
- When
the download is complete, browse to the c:\temp folder on your computer and
double click the “av-451.zip” file.
- Unzip
the file to the c:\temp folder on your computer. (Note: If you do not have
WinZip on your computer, download and install WinZip by clicking on the
following link: http://www.winzip.com
- From
the Windows Start menu, click on Run.
- Type “c:\temp\setup.exe”
in the open field and click OK.
- Click
Next to continue with the installation.
- Click
on “I agree to the terms of the License Agreement” as shown in Figure 2
and click Next.

- Click
Next to choose the Typical Installation.
- Click
Install.
- Click
Next to continue with the installation.
- Click
Next to Run AutoUpdate Now. (Note:
You must have a working Internet connection for AutoUpdate
to work properly.)
- When AutoUpdate completes, click OK.
- Click
Finish to complete the setup.
- A
complete scan of the system will start after the software setup is
complete. Any files that are found
to contain a virus should be cleaned or deleted by the VirusScan
program.
- An
important part of the anti-virus program is scheduling the updates to the
virus checking files. To schedule
updates to run automatically, click on the Windows Start menu and choose
Programs - Network Associates – VirusScan
Console.
- Double-click
on the AutoUpdate line as shown in Figure 3.

- Click
on the Schedule tab.
- Click
on the Enable box and set the options as shown in Figure 4. Then click Apply and OK.

The
installation is now complete.
